Do I Need To Be Baptized?

Do I Need To Be Baptized?

" Jesus was baptized of John, he was our example”!.

Matthew 3:13-15

13.  Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

 14.  But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

 15.  And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

John 13:15 17

15.  For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

 16.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

 17.  If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

1 Peter 2:21

21.  For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

John 3:5

"Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God."

Do I need to be baptized"?

The answer is Yes

Let’s  consider how to be baptized.

First look at the word Baptism, Baptism comes from the Greek word baptismos which means to cover completely. In order to be covered completely you have to be submerged. This excludes sprinkling you can not be covered completely with a sprinkling.

This is a very popular belief in some religions, but it is not Biblical. Lets look at  the  example of Jesus Christ. His Death, Burial, and Resurrection. Like Christ we also must go through a Death, Burial, And a Resurrection. Our Repentance is symbolic of Death, because we Die out to a sinful life style. once a Death occurs there has to be a Burial. Baptism is representative of a burial. When we have Died out to sin, been Buried by Baptism, we become ready for a Resurrection (or) The Holy Ghost

.

Do You Have To Have The Gift of The Holy Ghost”?

 Jesus Said

John 3: 5

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Now let’s look at what Jesus Commandment regarding baptism.

Matthew 28:19

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of  the Son and of the Holy Ghost:"

Mark 16:15-16

"And he said unto them, go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

John 3:5

"Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God."

Luke 24:47

"And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in HIS NAME among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."

Now consider The birth of the Church on the day of Pentecost”.

What did peter  command”?

Acts 2:38

"Then Peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

It is Important to remember that Peter knew above all the formula for baptism.

John 1:  42

And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

Matthew 16:18 ;19

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

 19.  And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

If Peter said be baptized every one of you in the name of JESUS CHRIST. Then it means every one of you.

Why

Because Jesus said”. in Matthew 16:18,19

"Do I have to be Baptized to be saved"? Yes

Jesus Said;

 John 3:5

5.     Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

This should have answered this question. If not  consider Mark 16:16.

Mark 16:16.

16.     He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

"How do I need to be Baptized"?

Does it matter in whose name I am baptized?

Jesus Said in Matthew 28:19

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of  the Son and of the Holy Ghost:"

What was the Name”?.  Was it Father,  Jesus Said ,

in John 5: 43

43.     I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

What then Was the Fathers Name”?.  Jesus

What was the Son’s Name,

Joseph was instructed  by an Angle  to call his name ”? I n Matthew 1: 20,21

20.  But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

 21.  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

What then was the Son’s Name”?. Jesus

What was the  Holy Ghost’s Name”?. .

In Whose Name was the Holy Ghost Sent”?

Jesus said

 John14:25,26

25.  These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

 26.  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

What Was The Holy Ghosts Name”? Jesus.

Does it matter in whose name I am baptized? Yes,

There is but one way to be baptized and that is in the name of Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:38 gives you in detail how to be Saved.

Acts 2:38

38.  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

 39.  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Look at Acts 4:12

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

What about the Ephesians Church in Acts 19

1.  And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

 2.  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

 3.  And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

 4.  Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

 5.  When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

 6.  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

They were re-baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

That is how much it matters!!!

Look at Acts 4:12

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

" If it is not in the name of Jesus, it is going down dry and coming up wet, it is not Baptism.

I know there are some of you going, what about Matthew 28:19?

 OK lets break it down.

1. The verse before and after that are speaking of only one person Jesus.

2."In the name of...." this is a singular statement, it says name not names.

3. "And of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." the and of is very important.

This is the same name all the way through the verse. For example in the name of the Father, which is the name of the Son, which is the name of the Holy Ghost.

That Name is Jesus Christ.

 Consider; Ephesians 4: 4.

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5. One Lord, one faith,
one baptism,
6. One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

There is  one  Body, one  Spirit, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, one God, one Father Who is above ALL, through ALL, and in you ALL. Then there is but One  and that Name is Jesus Christ.
